Spaceship Broken
Since I haven’t updated this blog in months I think it’s time to get back into the swing of things. My cinema visits have dropped recently along with my enthusiasm for reviews. I’ve seen a few films in the last month however that seem worth commenting on so below are a few quick sentences on The Social Network and The Kids Are Alright, with a longer review of Let Me In to come later.
This weekend though (and possibly going into next week) I’ve decided to watch all the Harry Potter films so far in preparation for The Deathly Hallows. Having only seen the first and fourth of the saga previously I’m looking forward to finding out what all the commotion is about - hopefully updating here with a few impressions.
Anyways, for now:
The Social Network - Excellent filmmaking from David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin. Some of the best dialogue in recent Hollywood is delivered at breakneck speed in a film that makes computer programming and court cases thrilling, and provides an apt of observation of contemporary social relationships.
The Kids Are Alright - A good, fun to watch exploration of marriage, adoption and family life. It’s funny, engaging, and the performances all round are great but I’m not sure if its quite the Oscar favourite the critics have made it out to be.
