Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a genuinely funny, enjoyable family film. Like a Superbad for 12 year olds, events rapidly spiral out of control in order to thwart young Greg’s attempts to become one of the most popular kids in middle school. Along the way he loses his best friend and ends up in several embarrassing situations. Needless to say he learns a valuable lesson at the end, emphasised by the supremely cool Angie (played by Kick Ass’ Chloe Moretz) who throughout the film offers Greg several lifelines that he refuses to take.
Funny, knowing and cool, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is excellent stuff for both kids and adults.
